Burton Fischler, MPsych, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Biology from Hofstra University, a Master’s Degree in Psychology, and a doctoral teaching fellowship from New York University. He has worked on a suicide prevention hotline, a detoxifcation treatment center, and a psychiatric ward. Burton also spent years as a behavioral skills trainer and teacher.

Along his tortuous path to awakening, Burton was blessed to begin his healing journey with training from Chungliang Al Huang, tai chi master and founder of the Living Tao Foundation, and Mariah Fenton Gladis, forgiveness expert and founder of the Pennsylvania Gestalt Center; and with inspiration from one of the most important spiritual voices of our time, Marianne Williamson. He has included their wisdom in his story.

Burton’s self-healing journey continued at Hoffman Institute’s retreat, world-renowned for providing a path to personal freedom and love. That’s where Burton learned to integrate four aspects of his being — physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. Those dimensions provided a framework for further self-exploration and are shared generously with his readers. Many years after his wife was brutally murdered, having been ripped apart by tragedies and too overwrought by grief to resume his career as a financial advisor, Burton decided to become an NYC Uber driver, engaging the hearts and minds of thousands of fellow humans while on the road. Some of what Burton unexpectedly learned is in his book too.

After unwittingly learning to traverse life’s vicissitudes, Burton wrote The Gift: Trauma to Triumph and became a Certified Life Coach, specializing in trauma recovery and personal transformation. Burton is grateful to have survived trauma and is dedicated to helping others beneft from lessons learned on his healing journey. Constantly evolving, he completed coursework to become a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance ETC and passed his IC&RC exam. Burton received in-feld training at Mercy Medical Center’s In-Patient Psychiatry-Behavioral Health Services Unit. He is now a New York State credentialed CASAC-Advanced and a Certifed Clinical Trauma Professional-Level II (CCTP). Burton currently works at a medically supervised outpatient chemical dependency treatment center in New York City.

Burton welcomes opportunities to speak to associations, organizations, and small groups on trauma recovery, mental illness, and addiction disorders. He has written insightful articles on these topics, which may be found on his website @coachburton.com/blog or http://thriveglobal.com/authors/Burton-Fischler. Burton plans to continue sharing his survival lessons by launching a self-help podcast, Besting TraumaSM, and hosting a live radio broadcast, Courageous ConversationsSM, which is also slated to be the title of his next book.
